Holistic Addiction Medicine

Professional Holistic Addiction Medicine training 2020-2021

This fall it will be 35 years since I was first introduced to addiction medicine and for the past 27 years I have treated “food addiction” which I now call “sugar/flour/processed food addiction Over the years I have treated thousands of people and trained hundreds of professionals to treat sugar addiction.

What is the online Holistic Addiction Medicine?

Holistic Addiction Medicine is the integration of different addiction treatment paradigms in order to ensure treating addiction with a holistic approach. This includes areas of traditional medicine, addiction medicine, integrative functional medicine, orthomolecular medicine, the importance of self help groups for long term recovery and mainly nutrition and healing tools for the addicted brain.

In order to start training you need to be both certified and licensed in SUGAR® – Sugar Use General Assessment Recording for client’s age 18 and up. It is a evaluation tool for sugar addiction and is been proven to be an extremely effective tool for motivational work and compliance for those with sugar addiction and as a basis for tailored treatment planning. The instrument is based on ICD 10/11 and DSM5. More information about SUGAR here.

After doing SUGAR you can go on to Holistic Addiction Medicine training where there are three parts. One is everything about, food, food plans, biochemical repair, metabolic dysfunction, how to heal consequences of this illness. The second is how to work with relapse, relapse prevention, relapse assessment, relapse treatment and more. The third is the 4 day intensive in Bristol UK, May 2021.

You will learn how to build a successful treatment and you will receive tools that will help you lead your clients on the path to recovery.
Here you will acquire unique knowledge and a holistic view of addiction. The main focus of this course is on sugar addiction because it is usually the starting point of the entire addiction development. But the training does include Addiction Interaction Disorder and screening for alcohol, subscription drugs, street drugs and gaming.
